One of the best ways to keep Lake Auburn’s water quality high is to keep its watershed forested. Since its formation, LAWPC has protected 2,469 acres of watershed land and 76.8% of the lake’s shoreline, and we are committed to balancing the goals of maintaining high water quality with ensuring public access to the land.
LAWPC conserves property through a combination of purchase agreements, conservation easements, and life estates. Access rules differ depending on property type and location within the watershed. - Commission Land outside of restricted zone (green) – public access allowed
- Life Estates (light pink) — access allowed with permission from owner
- Keene-Whitman and Summer Street Conservation Easements (fuchsia) — public access allowed
- All other Conservation Easements and AWD Land (fuchsia and yellow) – no public access
- Commission Land inside of restricted zone (red checkerboard) — no public access
