Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission (LAWPC) is a quasi-governmental entity focused on the protection of Lake Auburn, which is the drinking water supply for the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, Maine. The efforts of LAWPC focus on managing land use and activities in a watershed greater than 12,000 acres and across five municipalities in attempts to control run-off and contamination that may make its way into the drinking water supply. The efforts involve strong community engagement endeavors and partnerships at the local, regional, and state levels. Representatives from six municipalities and the County are appointed to serve LAWPC and provide oversight of its efforts, holding public meetings regularly throughout the year.
